Lindy Duncan, the Artist
| I was born in Montreal, Canada and lived there for several years before moving to California with my family. I was fortunate to have a wonderful High School Art Instructor who provided me with a solid foundation for my art career. He always encouraged creative thought and instilled confidence in me. After attending College for a time I was hired by TWA and spent many years working as a flight attendant for them. I married and raised two sons with my husband Dennis. School activities, family life , a career in real estate, raising and showing horses filled my life but did not include art in any significant way. It wasn't until my father invited me to join him in a sculpting class that my artistic side opened up. I couldn't learn fast enough. The flood gates had opened. I was again lucky to find an excellent art teacher in Jim Smythe at the Pacific Art League. From that starting point I have spent may years painting, drawing, taking classes and taking workshops from outstanding Artists nation wide. I strive for excellence and have enjoyed the journey of learning along the way. I feel fortunate to have the creative spirit that drives me to paint and blessed to have the opportunity to do so. |

Artist's Statement: My goal is for expression and design to be interwoven with color and rhythm. I am the happiest when outside, so painting in "Plein Air" is a natural blending of self and artistic medium. Color and paint application excite me. In Plein Air painting the effects of light and color are both intense and evasive and each scene offers a unique challenge. Each painting is a journey for me; it records not only the place itself but also sense of feel. The warmth of the day, the smell of the grasses and trees, the painting becomes the essence of my responses to the subject. I love the interplay of color and truth with imagination and expression. I have a saying printed on my easel "Begin with the end in mind". I love to take what I see and make it my own. I work to keep the information in my subject direct yet beautiful and I want the viewer to have his own journey of interpretation. I strive to give each painting a life of its own and try always to be true to my artistic vision. |
